Conversion and recertification of the existing energy management system in accordance with ISO 50001
The company attaches great importance to ensuring that its systems are state of the art and that it is constantly evolving. This also applies to energy efficiency.
At the beginning of 2020, BFE took over the role of energy manager for the ISO 50001-compliant energy management system, which has been in place for many years, as an external service provider. Previously, this area was handled by an in-house employee on a part-time basis with external help. An insurmountable mammoth task, considering the company's energy requirements.
The ISO standard requires the use of measurement technology when operating an energy management system. Temporary or continuous measurement not only creates transparency about energy flows, but also enables professional energy monitoring. Energy consumption can be easily controlled and energy indicators can be derived in a meaningful way.
Measurement technology - optimization of the current status
The existing measurement technology had to be optimized in order to comply with the standard and provide better verification of the energy efficiency measures. For example, the individual existing measuring points were to be expanded and merged into a high-performance measuring system for the first time. To this end, BFE brought its sister company econ solutions on board. econ and BFE were able to impress with a pragmatic, intuitive solution. The transfer of the existing measuring points has already been completed and the measuring system is being continuously expanded in line with the standard requirements.
It was important to the operations manager that the BFE knew and understood all operationally relevant topics and processes in the energy sector in order to quickly establish a future-oriented measurement system with the experts from econ. The proximity between econ and BFE was the decisive advantage of this solution for the operations manager.
In 2020, the company was due to switch from ISO 50001 to the new 2018 version. Two experienced colleagues from BFE took over the further processing, document review and took care of the upcoming recertification for 2021.
Outlook
With the help of the new possibilities (measurement technology), an increase in efficiency is to be determined through the planned expansion of the central ice water plant/cooling system. The findings will serve the company as a basis for decision-making and will be used to apply for funding. Once the measures have been implemented, the increase in efficiency will be verified using the ISO 50001 measurement system.
The customer likes the proximity between econ and BFE as part of the MVV solution house. This means that nothing stands in the way of further partnership-based cooperation.
"The introduction of a sensible measuring system was inevitable for the continuation of our existing energy management system. econ and BFE impressed us with their professionalism and fast, uncomplicated solutions - the proximity of the two companies to each other is great."
